A 2 day workshop in collaboration with Ania Bas, collectively exploring tools to create writing and performances in everyday contexts. Commissioned by LADA as part of their DIY Programme 2019.
A two-day adventure filled with provocations and exercises undertaken in the context of St Helens shopping centre working with Heart of Glass, that resulted in performances and scripts, conversations and exchanges, collaboration and laughs. Designed for people who want to perform but battle with feeling inadequate on stage, or struggle with language but want to write. We experimented and navigated our own shortcomings trying to turn them into strengths.
Artists involved were Lisa Alexander, Diana Damian Martin, Juliet Davis-Dufayard, Ben Harris, Bojana Janković, Zack McGuinness and Pierce Starre.
The resulting experiments included one performer tying themselves to a lamp post as a reflection on their experience of living with deaf parents as a hearing person. Another created propositions and instructions to perform simple performative actions with the items on sale in a Pound Shop. Our group exercises culminated in creating a survival kit - designed to help others that struggle with writing and performing.
